DaVinci Designer Jewellery - Care of Gemstones
The facts you should know about natural stones (minerals) . . .
Gemstones generally mean minerals that have been cut and polished. Not all minerals are suitable for gemstones. As well as beauty, a mineral must possess hardness and stability, and occur in crystals or masses large enough for cutting. Being natural products of the earth, a variation in colour, texture, transparency and inclusions may occur and are considered to enhance the natural beauty of gemstones, making them unique.
At DaVinci Designer Jewellery, we use a vast range of gemstones in our jewellery. Each and every gemstone is unique - different in size and texture. We have tried to represent our jewellery collection as best as we can with full description and images, however, your piece of jewellery, although very similar, will vary slightly in shape or colour, depending on the availability of the stones.
How to Clean your Gemstone Jewellery
To clean both amber and gemstone jewellery, use a polishing cloth or warm soapy water. Dust and perspiration can be removed with clean, lukewarm water and a soft flannel cloth. The amber can be dried and rubbed with clear olive oil, then runbbed with a soft cloth to remove excess oil and restore the polish.
Never use active solutions and do not put your amber jewellery on before hairspray and perfume is applied, because this will likely create a whitish coating on the amber that may be permanent. Never put amber jewellery in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner which would shatter the gem. Never let amber come into contact with strong solutions, soaps, detergents and commercial jewellery cleaning solutions. All of these can dull the finish or give a whitish coating. Keep the amber away from common kitchen substances such as lard, salad oil, butter and excessive heat from ovens and burners.
